Oceanside is SoCal's first gateway city

United States. Oceanside has experienced dramatic growth since 1970, when its
population was 45,000. Much of the city's area was developed into single-family home
tracts during the 1970s and 1980s. After 1970, the main focus of Oceanside was
suburban development and a choice for newcomers to move in to then relatively
affordable housing. Oceanside's appeal is based on its bountiful land situated within
a few miles of the coast; its easy access to two major freeways, its large, experienced
labor force; and its varied housing market cost.
